Golf

Kiawah Island Golf Resort is home to five spectacular golf courses.  For this package, choose to play on 2 of the following courses:

The Ocean Course

This Ocean Course is Kiawah Island's best known golf course, having hosted major golf tournaments including the Ryder Cup in 1991, the World Cup in 1997 and 2003 and the PGA Championship in 2012 and will host the 2021 PGA Championship.  Probably no other golf course in the US is affected as much by the wind with players experiencing up to an 8-club difference on holes depending upon the direction and strength of the wind. Built in 1991 by Pete Dye, there are no prevailing winds on the course. Dye took this into account when designing the course. In fact, he designed two courses into one – one for an easterly wind and one for a westerly wind.

Cougar Point

Since it reopend in October 2017, Cougar Point has been collecting rave reviews following an 10 month renovation. Working closely with Gary Player Design to ensure the visual impact and playability of the renovation, this newly renovated golf course is something all golfers should be sure to experience on their next trip to Kiawah!  Cougar Point was recently rated the “Golf Course of The Year”, by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association. One of the most dramatic vistas on the island is the middle of Cougar Point’s front nine, along the Kiawah River, making this course a very memorable one.

Osprey Point

Following its total renovation in 2014 under the direction of course architect Tom Fazio, Osprey Point was originally developed as a members’ only type course. However, Osprey Point is now part of Kiawah Island Golf Resort so anyone can enjoy this beautiful Lowcountry gem. Featuring tees, greens and fairways grassed with Paspalum, Fazio routed a par-72 layout that takes advantage of its setting. The course offers a wide variety of holes and generally, courses of this calibre are in private club settings and its elegant clubhouse make you feel like you are in a very private setting.

Turtle Point

Ranked 48th on Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Course List, Turtle Point delivers a first class golfing experience. Venue for the Carolina Amateur Championship, the Carolina PGA, the South Carolina Amateur and the 1990 PGA Cup Matches, Turtle Point Golf Course is a true test for strategy and accuracy.  Jack Nicklaus' one goal in golf course design was to “make the player use his mind ahead of his muscles – to control his emotions sufficiently to really think through his options before drawing a club from the bag.” Turtle Point Golf Club at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, is a perfect example of these ideals.
